Unia is an independent public institution that fights against discrimination and promotes equal opportunities. Its jurisdiction is inter-federal. This means that Unia is empowered to act at the federal level as well as at the level of the Regions and Communities. Any person in Belgium can therefore lodge a complaint or appeal to Unia if they believe that they are the victim of a racist act.
